SAICE-PDP has been involved in the management of bursary programmes for many years.
In 2005, SAICE-PDP was appointed to administer the BTech bursary scheme for LGSETA. We continued with this support until 2015, at a time when municipalities were asked to take over managing their own bursary allocations.
Over the years, 103 municipal employees completed BTech qualifications in civil or electrical engineering.
The programme was a major success for the retention of engineering practitioners in local government, as the bursary recipients were required to sign an agreement to remain in local government for three years after graduating. Having spent this period in local government, they have become committed municipal engineering practitioners.
