SAICE Professional Development and Projects Needs Mentors!

SAICE-PDP is looking for energetic mentors who are registered engineering professionals and have either retired and would like to impart their knowledge or are self-employed and can dedicate time to mentoring in between formal commitments. Over the years we have been able to assist 100s of graduates to develop the competence required for professional registration which has been very rewarding.

We need mentors to develop graduates towards registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professionals (SACPCMP), and registration with one of these Councils is a requirement to serve as a mentor.

There is an immediate need for mentors located in North West, Free State, Northern and Eastern Cape but future opportunities may arise in other areas, so all CV’s are welcome. Typically, mentors will spend one to three hours a month supporting each of their allocated candidates. Mentoring sessions will be a combination of online and face-to-face engagements. A reasonable hourly rate and travel costs will be covered.

Comments from graduates will give you a sense of the relationships and achievements as a result of our mentoring efforts:

“The mentorship that I received was structured to a point that I began to understand why Engineers exist”

“Mentors are the best because they give coaching, advice and guidance”

“Every time I was stuck my mentor was there to help guide me with solutions on how to tackle the problem. He helped me see hope inside of me”

“Looking up to someone who has experienced the road you intend on taking pushes you to achieve your goals”

“Listen to what your mentor tells you – do not just listen, DO what he advises you. Never doubt your abilities! Most importantly, I learnt that only hard work will get you registered”

Getting involved may require some homework on your part to catch up on the latest registration requirements, and what is required of coaches and mentors, but the SAICE-PDP team will be there to guide you.

Should you be interested in joining our team of mentors and contributing to the development of tomorrow’s engineering and construction professionals, please submit your CV to nadine@saicepdp.org along with details of your location and discipline speciality.
